Hotel les Ecureuils is the ideal option to ensure you have maximum time on the slopes, whilst also benefiting from those few extra touches you would expect from a quality 3-star chalet-hotel.
It is set in a quiet spot on the edge of the traditional Alpine ski resort of Le Grand Bornand, in a fantastic location just 100m from the main ski lifts and with stunning mountain views, yet still only a 5-minute stroll to the centre of this attractive Savoyard village.
Les Ecureuils was recently renovated to a very high standard, successfully mixing modern Alpine design with traditional features you might come to expect in a characterful ski lodge.
It also offers renowned food, a high level of service and excellent facilities, with 17 ensuite bedrooms, and a cosy bar and lounge area set around an open fire.
There is also a sunny terrace to enjoy a cold beer or a vin chaud at the end of your day, and a spa area including sauna and outdoor hot tub to relax in whilst overlooking the snowy mountains. Everything you need for an enjoyable, hassle-free ski short break this winter.
After the lifts close and the skiers leave, this is a quite quiet setting away from the bustle of the village, especially peaceful at night. This could be ideal for couples who want easy access to the pistes, but peace and quiet away from the main resort in the evening for a romantic ski getaway. It could also work well for small groups, for those wanting something a little more luxurious on their short ski break.
Should you want to ski in the neighbouring resort of La Clusaz during your stay, which is just a 10-minute ride away on the free ski bus, your inclusive Aravis region lift pass covers both resorts, which will be ready and waiting for you on arrival. This gives you access to 220km of pistes, and the bus stop is also less than 100m away.
In the evening you can expect to sample some very tasty, locally produced food in the dining room, with full mountain views.
Nadege will be your host throughout your stay, and she is always on hand to answer your questions as well as offer great advice on the ski area, resort and local activities.

Hotel Les Ecureuils – Rooms
The hotel has 17 comfortable bedrooms on 2 main floors, many of which have a balcony overlooking the mountains beyond.
The rooms are individually decorated and furnished, providing a really cosy ‘Alpine’ atmosphere, with premium bedding provided. Each room has a private ensuite with complimentary toiletries.
Guests will also find a hair dryer, flat-screen television with digital TV channels and a telephone in their rooms. Many of the rooms and bathrooms have been recently renovated. There is free WiFi throughout the hotel.
Hotel Les Ecureuils – Social Facilities
Grab a coffee or hot chocolate to warm up after a day on the slopes, or alternatively you can relax outside on the sunny terrace to watch the sun go down with a glass of beer or vin chaud in hand.
During the winter season, guests can enjoy the stunning view of the Aravis mountains from the outdoor hot tub, or ease those aching muscles in the sauna in the spa area.
Or simply find a quiet corner for two if you’re on a romantic ski getaway – there are plenty of comfy places to make yourself feel right at home.
The hotel also benefits from being an easy 5-minute flat walk to the village centre where you can enjoy lots of restaurants and bars, or just a pleasant stroll in the evening under the stars, in the shadows of the snowy mountains.
In addition there is an ice rink and cinema in Le Grand Bornand, which are no more than a 10-minute walk away; during the day you can take the local free ski-bus.
Should you wish to self-drive on your short ski break, there is plenty of free parking directly opposite the hotel.
Hotel Les Ecureuils – Food
The dining room is designed so that you can take in beautiful mountain views over dinner, and the restaurant is highly rated for its excellent refined yet traditional food, and very high level of service.
Your Ski Weekender package includes a breakfast buffet and 5-course evening meal, including a cheese plate – giving you the opportunity to try some of the region’s specialities.
You can enjoy regional wines, and dishes made with locally sourced, fresh produce cooked by the owner Fabrice, who is the head chef, ensuring your taste buds are also well satisfied throughout your stay.
The chef team can cater for most dietary requirements – please ensure you notify us in advance.
Hotel Les Ecureuils – Location & Skiing Access
The hotel is located close to the bottom of the home run, and right beside the main lift station of Le Grand Bornand, just an hour’s transfer from Geneva airport.
The hotel is on the edge of the main village centre, but it’s only a 2-minute bus ride or an easy 5 minutes if you prefer to walk. Regular ski buses to the village (free with your lift pass) leave from outside the hotel throughout the day until 6pm.
Our recommended ski hire partner is only 50m from the hotel at the very foot of the slopes, offering a handy, hassle-free service enabling you to get kitted out on your first morning before the lifts open, so that you can get up the mountain early and enjoy maximum slope time.
Once the lifts close, the area around the hotel, which is set back from the main road becomes very quiet, giving you a very peaceful location.
In the village you will find a good range of restaurants, cafes and bars, shops, ATMs, a post office and a mini supermarket.
The neighbouring resort of La Clusaz, offering up an additional 120km of exciting terrain at no extra cost, is a 10 minute bus journey away on the free ski bus. The regular bus departs a handy 50m away from the front door of the hotel.

All of our packages include your accommodation, airport transfers and full region lift pass – but unlike on the ‘Classic Packages’, you won’t see one of our team every day and we do not have our Ski Team on site to actively manage your days – leaving you to ski and enjoy your holiday independently.
However, we will still be available and easily accessible to support and help you should you require it!
Full package details – Hotel Les Ecureuils
Our ‘Lite Packages’ at Hotel Les Ecureuils include:
- Half-board, ensuite accommodation;
- Full Aravis region lift pass included in the price and ready for you on arrival;
- Afternoon / evening airport transfers during our standard transfer windows included in the package price*,
- Access to our off-site ski team if required.
*Airport transfers on Lite Packages are included for flights scheduled to arrive into Geneva airport between 15:00 – 21:15, and for departure flights taking off at 16:00 or later on our standard Monday / Thursday change-over days.
On departure, your airport transfer will leave resort 3 – 3.5 hours before your flight time, meaning an evening flight from about 20:00 onwards will let you ski all day on your last day.

Stays include half-board hotel accommodation – continental breakfast and 3-course evening meal.
All stays at Hotel les Ecureuils include a full Aravis region lift pass, covering 220km of skiing across the ski resorts of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand.
Airport transfers are included on our fixed Monday / Thursday change-over days, for flights scheduled to arrive into Geneva airport between 15:00-21:15, and depart 16:00 or later. Transfer time from Geneva to Le Grand Bornand is just 1 hour.
Ski & Snowboard Hire
We partner with Paret Sports who are located at the bottom of the telecabines, just 50m from the hotel. They provide a ski locker facility for our guests, meaning you can walk to/from the ski lifts in your normal shoes, although there is also a heated boot room and ski storage at the hotel as well. Ski Lessons
If any of your party need them, we can help to arrange ski lessons during your stay. We’ve been working for many years with ESF in Le Grand Bornand, who give us access to their English-speaking instructors for Ski Weekender-only private ski lessons, which tie in with the short break format.
