Guide to local events in La Clusaz

The region is well known for the local events held here during the winter ski season. Any excuse for a party – there are normally one or two extraordinary events taking place every month throughout the ski season for which the locals turn out in force – normally in fancy dress! Join them this year for one of the following unmissable events this winter.

Les Pestacles du Pere Noel

22nd to 31st December 2012

Rediscover the magic of Christmas with this wonderful weeklong festival consisting of games, street entertainment, story telling and concerts – all overseen by Father Christmas, his elves and the beautiful lights of La Clusaz. The excitement starts on Christmas Eve when a procession of Father Christmases ski down into La Clusaz by torchlight, followed by a fantastic fireworks display and refreshments in the main square. This will be the 14th Pestacles du Noel.

Radikal Mountain

14th and 15th January 2012

A must see event for all lovers of extreme skiing! For the second year in a row La Clusaz is hosting the Freeride World Qualifiers. A weekend dedicated to the best freeriders and boarders in the world taking to our slopes, proving that any terrain is ski able (for them at least)! Add to that the nightly entertainment with DJs and some freestyle spectacles, this is a weekend not to be missed!

Retro Ski

February 2012

A magnificent sound and light show dedicated to retracing the history of skiing. From turn of the centuary skiing right through to modern day freestyle skiing, this spectacle will dazzle you with the enormous changes that have developed over the years in our favourite sport.

Carnival La Clusaz

February 2012

Just like the Rio Carnival, only in minus-12 degree temperatures and surrounded by snow! Fantastic costumes, huge headdresses and stunning floats wind their way through the streets of La Clusaz accompanied by carnival percussion music and finished off with a spectacular firework display. The Carnival has become quite an institution in La Clusaz now!

Full Moon Skiing La Clusaz

4th February 2012

A lovely event for all mountain lovers – experience the pistes in the quiet of night by the light of the full moon. The main lifts running out of La Clusaz open from 10pm – 1am allowing you to ski the main Cret du Merle piste down to the village, stopping en-route to enjoy a vin chaud in a lively mountain bar lit by fire torches and often with live music. A real party atmosphere abounds in the village centre too.

Defi Foly – La Clusaz End of Season Party

28th and 29th April 2012

defi foly A surreal end of season event enjoyed by young and old alike, this season in it’s 24th year. The main competition sees skiers descend a steep downhill run-in before hitting the Lac de Confins lake at high speed and ‘water skiing’ across it. The aim is to travel as far as possible across the lake before sinking. 2010 saw a new record set by Phillipe Troubat of 155 metres, still currently unbeaten! After the serious skiing event, locals have a go as well by tobogganing down the piste on weird and wonderful sliding objects to try and travel as far as possible before they sink too! Crazy, but that sums up life in a small village after a long winter season!
