Hotel les Glaieuls (Ski Weekender Lite)
Resort – Le Grand Bornand
Hotel les Glaieuls is a welcoming 2 star hotel with a "foot of the slopes" location in the charming resort of le Grand Bornand.
Based right next to the lifts (ski-in, ski-out), the hotel is in the best location in resort for quick access to the fantastic skiing of this hidden gem of the French Alps.
Ski Weekender Lite
The hotel has 19 bedrooms, mostly 2 person twin / doubles with a few slightly larger triple rooms. All rooms are en-suite with showers / WC, TV (French channels) and telephone.
The cosy chalet-style rooms are found on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the hotel. They have traditional wooden features and décor. Most rooms have views towards the Aravis mountain range or of the bottom of the ski slopes. The area around the hotel is busy with skiers during the day, but as it’s well set-back from the main road it’s quiet during the night.
The entrance level houses the hotel reception, bar, dining room and a lounge room with open fire and comfy chairs.
The hotel has lockers which guests can use to store their own skis / snowboard and boots.
The owners (Marion and Franck) and staff are friendly and welcoming and speak excellent English; they will be your day-to-day point of contact during your stay at the hotel. Our ski team is based 2km away, and as well as providing your airport transfers and checking you into the hotel will be available by phone and during regular evening drop-ins to help with anything you need during your stay.
The Ski Weekender Lite package includes a set 3 course dinner every night of your stay (including Wednesdays on Midweek breaks). The kitchen can cater for vegetarians and other special dietary requirements as long as you let us know these in advance.
The entry-level floor has a bar and dining room which is where your evening meal will be served. The restaurant has a good reputation in the village; it serves a range of regional dishes and contemporary French cuisine using great quality, locally sourced seasonal produce.
Wine is not included with dinner at this location; payment is taken locally on departure for wine, which is available by the glass from €3.40 or bottle from €17 (half bottles also available), and for other drinks from the bar.
You can enjoy pre or post dinner drinks, or tea and coffee when you return from skiing, both in the bar and a good-sized lounge with comfy club chairs and open fire. The village centre has 2 excellent café-bakeries and several cosy bars – these are just a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
Breakfast, which is a continental-style buffet, is served in the dining room 0800 – 1000 each morning.
The hotel is located right next to the main ski lifts and the bottom of the home run in le Grand Bornand village. Access to the lifts is just a few seconds from the door of the hotel.
The resort town square is an easy, flat 5 minutes’ walk from the hotel, giving quick access to a good range of bars, cafés, restaurants and shops, plus services like ATMs, the post office and tourist information centre.
A bus stop directly outside the hotel can be used to catch the Aravis inter-stations ski bus, which is free with your lift pass (included in the package), runs every 30 minutes during the day and gives you access in 10 minutes to the resort of La Clusaz, at which you can ski another 120km of piste between 1000m and 2600m. There’s no cost for this extra skiing – the lift pass included in your package covers the entire Aravis region.
About our Ski Weekender Lite Packages
We have been offering Ski Weekender Lite packages since 2013, expanding our range of accommodation for guests looking for a greater variety of options on their 3 or 4 day ski breaks. These packages still include the essentials that make a Ski Weekender holiday what it is:
- A stay in a resort only one hour from Geneva.
- Lift pass ready and waiting for you on arrival.
- PM airport transfers to and from Geneva.
- Half-board in welcoming, well-located accommodation.
Stays on the Lite Package are on a more independent basis, and are our best value options. Some extra elements of the Classic Package – ski hosting, afternoon tea and evening entertainments – are not included. We don’t have any permanent on-site Ski Weekender staff at Lite locations, although our team still fulfills your airport transfers, checks you in and is always available by phone or during regular contact visits to help with anything you need during your holiday.
Ski & Snowboard Hire
As with all our locations, we help provide convenient ski hire options to allow you to minimise time wasted on your short ski break.
For guests staying at Hotel les Glaieuls, we have a partnership arrangement with a ski hire shop, Paret Sports, which is very conveniently located downstairs in the same building as the hotel. They give our guests a 10% discount from their standard prices.
For full details, including prices, please see here.
If any of your party need them, we can help arrange ski lessons during your stay. We’ve been working for many years with ESF in le Grand Bornand, who give us exclusive use of English-speaking instructors for Ski Weeeknder group lesson courses which tie in with the short break format.
Small group lesson courses are possible throughout the season, on a 3 day Tuesday – Thursday or 4 day Friday – Monday format. We can also help arrange private lessons and 1 on 1 tuition.
For full details, including prices, please see here.
Ski Clothing Hire
At our locations in le Grand Bornand, hire of ski jackets, trousers, goggles and gloves can be pre-arranged. Please see here for full details and prices.
Creche & Childcare
Grand Bornand has a good municipal crèche, which has places available for children from 3 months to 4 years. We can help arrange bookings with them; please see here for full details.
