Snowboarding in Samoens, Flaine and Les Carroz

Guide to snowboarding in SamoensThe Grand Massif links together the villages of Samoens, Les Carroz, Morillion and Sixt with the purpose built resort of Flaine.

The large area is an excellent resort for snowboarders of all abilities, with a great combination of long wide runs, plenty of tree lined sections, open bowls and acclaimed freestyle parks.

Being located so close to Geneva, it is ideal if you want to take advantage of one of our 4 day snowboard weekends, 3 day snowboard midweeks, or weeklong holidays.

For beginner snowboarders, the area around Samoens 1600 is an ideal learner zone, with a number of good green runs and easy blues to progress onto. You may well soon find yourself able to ride over towards Flaine and Les Carroz on the wide, not too steep blue slopes.

Intermediate Snowboarding

The Flaine bowl in particular is excellent for snowboarders. Not only is it served by a number of chair lifts accessing runs all round the ridge, it holds the snow well and offers an interesting, playful terrain and long wide runs for all to enjoy.

There are naturally a few flatter sections, but our ski host will be able to help you avoid them, or at least warn you in advance!

If trees are what you after, then check out Les Carroz for some great treelined runs which are a good choice in bad weather.

Advanced Snowboarding

Advanced snowboarding in Samoens and the Grand MassifIf you are looking for some fun, you will find plenty snowboarding in the Grand Massif. There are some memorable, steep in places, off-piste tree runs to be had over towards to Les Carroz.

Combe de Gers, accessible from the top of Tete des Saix, is a steep often untracked bowl that drops away with 700 metres of vertical and provides some great lines for snowboarders happy to take a drag lift out again.

Of course, the Flaine bowl itself holds plenty of attraction, with line after line of beautiful tracks waiting to be had, accessible from all round the top of the bowl. There a number of holes to watch out for,  so go carefully if you are not sure, or take a guide – we can help arrange one.

Snowpark

Snowboarding at the snowpark Grand Massif

There are 3 terrain parks in the Grand Massif. The Septimountain Jampark in Samoëns is for intermediate freestylers and features  a number of boxes, jumps and rails.

The main event is the Pro Jampark on the Calcédoine run over the Aujon ski area. It is one of the largest snowparks in Europe – nearly 1 mile long and features many tables, rails, big kickers and a quarter pipe. Aimed at experts, the Jampark has a reception area, sound system which pumps music across the area, and a ‘cool zone’ (which provides equipment for servicing your skis or board). There are numerous events on each season, including barbecues and DJ snowparties.

The Kids Park, recommended for children 5 – 12 years old, is beneath the Esserts chair above Morillon.
